LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy

  • Are you looking for a therapist who is part of the LGBTQ+ community?

  • Are you an adult or young adult figuring out your sexual orientation or gender identity?

  • Do you need a space to share, explore, and understand your identity?

  • Are you LGBTQ+ and tired of having to explain yourself to non-LGBTQ+ therapists?

I am here to help you along your journey.

Being LGBTQ+ can mean facing unique challenges and stressors such as:

  • Coming out

  • Dealing with rejection from family and friends

  • Pressure to conform (heteronormativity, amatonormativity, etc)

  • Body or sex-shaming

  • Discrimination, harassment, and abuse

All alongside overall experiences of depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, stress, etc.

Whether your concerns are related to your identity or not, you need a place to explore how you feel without judgment. You don’t have to sit with anything on your own. I am a bi+ cisgender woman with experience supporting the LGBTQ+ community. I help LGBTQ+ young adults and adults uncover and embrace their true self. I feel honored to do this work with you.

Below are some answers to some questions you may have about therapy. You can also reach out to me at: (424) 209-8856.

What is LGBTQ+ Affirming therapy?

Therapy is about helping you understand yourself deeply. Maybe you already have a sense of who you are. Maybe you are truly sitting down and getting to know yourself for the first time.

In taking on this important work, it is vital to find a therapist who validates your identities with warmth and unconditional positive regard. Unfortunately, not all therapists are trained to support the LGBTQ+ community. Talking about gender and sexuality can be difficult, particularly if you are new in exploring this identity. In our day-to-day lives, judgments show up all the time -- “it’s a phase,” “you’re just confused,” “are you sure?” and invalidate our experience and process. Some LGBTQ+ clients may even feel shamed by therapists who are trying to help but lack the experience or training.

Being bi+ (sometimes I alternate between saying bisexual or queer), I have a unique appreciation for the bravery it takes to remain curious about yourself and live authentically. I also have years of experience working with LGBTQ+ clients in a variety of settings such as community mental health, college mental health, and private practice.

How can therapy help me?

Therapy will provide you with a safe, judgement-free space where you feel affirmed and supported. Whether you are navigating your sexual orientation, gender identity, or uncovering other aspects of your true self, therapy can help with the following:

  • Help you navigate the coming out process with friends and family members

  • Develop a strong and confident sense of your true self

  • Identify your wants and needs and be able to share them with others

  • Feel supported and less lonely

  • Find ways to show up in the world as your full self

  • Explore how to find LGBTQ+ community

  • Feel more of a sense of self-integration and peace

  • Make progress with interpersonal and relationship goals

So much good can happen from therapy.

You deserve a space where you can truly express yourself and not worry about judgment.

I believe that when we truly know ourselves, we can live our lives more intentionally and with a sense of empowerment.
